Hiring a Copy Editor
With the advent of computers and self-publishing, millions of writers now have the ability to write and publish books, both on paper and digitally. Of course, this easy access has also created a monster. Many books are poorly edited or aren’t edited at all because their authors avoid the professional services of a copy editor altogether. (This is the biggest mistake a newbie writer makes.)

A writer may have an excellent story but doesn’t think that he or she needs the expert polishing services that a copy editor provides. Or maybe the writer’s son’s girlfriend or a friend who majored in English or a fellow writer does the editing. While this can be a good start for content feedback and basic corrections, it is by no means in the same ballpark as having a professional provide copyediting services for your manuscript.
